She died 22nd July 2023 in her son’s absence.

He told journalists: “I came back on Wednesday purposely for the burial ceremony of my mother. She passed away on 22 July last year and today (Thursday) is her wake-keep. The burial ceremony holds tomorrow in Igboho, after which we will move to Ibadan for the entertainment of guests on Saturday.”

At the wake-keep ceremony held in the Modeke area of Igboho Town in Oyo State, on Thursday, various Yoruba socio-cultural organisations, including the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), Agbekoya Vigilante Group and Ifelodun Security Network, were in attendance.

Security was beefed up at the venue as detachments of policemen and other security agencies were spotted at strategic locations, including Igboho Town Hall and the palace of Oba Ona-Onibode of Igboholand, Oba Abdulrasheed Anikulapo Jayeola III.

The wake-keep, which attracted a mammoth crowd, ended at about 5:40 p.m. Mr Adeyemo, who was swarmed by his supporters and admirers, later led a procession to the palace of Oba Anikulapo to pay homage.

Igboho has been out of Nigeria since 2021 when he eloped to Benin Republic after he was declared wanted by the Department of State Services (DSS), who had invaded his Ibadan residence at midnight, July 1.

DSS operatives killed two of his associates while arresting 12 more.

While fleeing, Igboho was arrested alongside his wife, Ropo, in Cotonou, Benin Republic, and detained at the request of the Nigerian government.

Attempts by the Nigerian government to repatriate him, after his arrest, were unsuccessful.

His wife was later released by the Beninese authorities.

Igboho was arraigned at the Court D’Apeal in Cotonou and was detained in a prison facility in the country on charges bordering on illegal entry and criminal association.

He was finally released in October 2022 and left for Germany.
