Operatives of the Lagos Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, have arrested 117 suspected internet fraudsters at Regional Hotel, Ojo, Lagos.
This is even as the EFCC Chairman, Ola Olukoyede, ordered the arrest of two officers involved in the manhandling of a female executive of the hotel, according to a statement by Dele Oyewale, Head, Media and Publicity, Thursday, June 27.
The officers were sighted in a viral video assaulting the staff of the hotel in an early morning sting operation in Lagos.
CCTV footage showed the door being smashed and the woman, dressed in nightwear, afterward being slapped and slammed onto the bed by an officer of the commission.
The suspects were arrested at Regional Hotel, Iyana-Ishasi, Lagos in a sting operation, following verified intelligence about their alleged involvement in computer-related fraud.
Items recovered from the suspects, at the point of arrest, include mobile phones, laptop computers and four cars.
They will be charged to court as soon as investigations are concluded.
In ordering the arrest of the two officers, cited on CCTV recordings manhandling the female worker of Regional Hotel, the EFCC’s boss ordered detailed investigations of the operation carried out there.
He assured that appropriate disciplinary measures would be taken against any of the officers found to be culpable.
The statement said Olukoyede assured the general public that the EFCC would continue to ply its job professionally and with profound respect for the rule of law.
