Former Deputy Speaker in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Harford Oseke, has died after slumping shortly after completing his routine exercise session in the capital city, Awka.
Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Somtochukwu Udeze, described Oseke’s death as a “rude shock and devastating to the Legislative Institution in general and Anambra State House of Assembly in particular.”
A former Member on the platform of APGA, Oseke had completed his regular exercise routine at the Alex Ekwueme Square in Awka, the state capital when he suddenly collapsed.
Efforts to revive him proved abortive and he was pronounced dead shortly after the incident.
His body has since been deposited at the Apex Medical Centre in Awka.
Born in August 1960, Oseke hailed from Umuawulu in the Awka South local government area of the State.
He studied law and recently completed a Ph.D. in Public Administration.
The deceased was a prominent figure in the freight forwarding industry in Port Harcourt and was actively involved in the importation of fishing feeds into Nigeria.
According to a statement on Tuesday by the Speaker’s spokesman, Emma Madu, Udeze said the “late Deputy Speaker was able to give a good account of his stewardship, especially in his political career where he empowered a lot of people in addition to constructing numerous constituency projects.”
In an emotion-laden voice, Udeze recalled Oseke’s “peaceful disposition, humane nature, philanthropy, legislative prowess and conviviality,” stressing that “his community Umuawulu, Awka South LGA, State House of Assembly, Anambra State and Nigeria at large have lost one of the finest politicians.”
