Nigerian Player Paul Julius Killed In Cyprus Crash 3 Weeks Of Joining New Club

A 20-year-old Nigerian footballer, Paul Julius Goewam, has died following a head-on collision involving his car and another one in Cyprus.

The 74-year-old driver of the other car is being treated in hospital but is not in a critical condition.

According to the data under investigation, around 6.30:20 on Tuesday morning, while the 74-year-old was driving a car on the Paralimniou-Protaras road, in the direction of Protaras, at a point on the road in the Pernera area, under circumstances that are being investigated, he collided with Paul’s car, going in the direction of Paralimni.

Members of the Police rushed to the scene for examinations, while the two drivers were taken by ambulance to the General Hospital of Famagusta, where the 20-year-old also succumbed to his injuries.

The Plateau State-born striker had joined Cypriot club, Enosis Neon Paralimni, three weeks ago from Egyptian side El Gaish.

Enosis Neon Paralimni FC released a heartfelt statement expressing their deep sadness at the passing of their player, who had overcome adversity to exhibit incredible fortitude and tenacity in his brief life.

“It is with deep sadness and pain that we express our sincere condolences on the unexpected loss of our footballer Paul Julius,” the club’s statement read

“The tragic news of his death has shocked us all. Despite the hardships and sufferings he faced to join our family, he remained steadfast and determined to fulfill his goals.

“His memory will live on in our hearts, and his absence will be felt. We are with his family and loved ones during this difficult time. May he rest in peace.”

Officers are appealing for witnesses to report as the incident is being investigated by the Famagusta Traffic Department.
