The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared majority winner in the October 5 local government elections in Akwa Ibom State, securing 30 out of the 31 available chairmanship positions.
The Akwa Ibom State Independent Electoral Commission (AKISIEC) confirmed this in a statement released on Sunday.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) won the remaining one local government area, Essien Udim, home of Senate President Godswill Akpabio.
Effiong’s win further strengthens the APC’s presence in the area.
With the results now official, the elected chairmen and their vice-chairmen are set to be sworn in on Monday, October 7, 2024.
The swearing-in ceremony will take place at 8 am at the Banquet Hall, Government House, Uyo, and will be presided over by Governor Umo Eno in the presence of esteemed guests.
