Police have identified a man, Nasiru Isiaka, killed in a cult clash occurred in Owo town, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State, on Sunday as a wanted notorious cultist.
Isiaka was killed in clash between two opposing camps on Sunday, January 19, 2025, barely a week after four people were shot dead in a fight between two rival cult groups in the town.
During the clash, the deceased was shot in the head in the LA Gbanasa area of the ancient town by two masked men suspected to be members of a rival group.
Spokesperson of the State Police Command, Funmilayo Odunlami, who confirmed the incident described the deceased as a “notorious cult member” who had been on the police command’s wanted list.
The PPRO stated: “The police at A Division, Owo, received a distress call today (Sunday) reporting that someone was shot at LA Gbanasa area of Owo by two masked men.
“The command can confirm the murder of one Nasiru Isiaka, aged 40 years, a notorious cultist who has been on the police wanted list.
“On arriving at the scene, the police discovered that the deceased was a cultist who participated in the End SARS protests, attacked Uso Division, and stole an AK-47 rifle and a bulletproof vest belonging to the police.
“He was also involved in the killing of one Adedeji Rafiu, a.k.a. P.A. His remains have been deposited at the morgue.”
Odunlami added that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the masked men behind the attack.
