Famous Nigerian Comedian and Nollywood Actor, Okey Bakassi, has won election to be king of the Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Imo State.
Breaking the news on Sunday, Bakassi, 55, expressed gratitude for the honour bestowed upon him.
He wrote in a post: “NEXT LEVEL……Service to Community.”
Posting another message, Okey Bakassi wrote: “Special thanks to the entire UMUIHUOCHA AUTONOMOUS COMMUNITY….a new beginning.”
Okey Bakassi once served as Senior Special Adviser on Entertainment Matters to former Imo State Governor Ikedi Ohakim.
Bakassi, an multiple award-winning Actor is a successful Comedian with over 30 years’ experience.
Congratulatory messages have poured in from fans, friends and colleagues celebrating the comedian’s new role as a traditional ruler.
Congratulating the entertainer, the Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) National President, Chief Emeka Rollas, said on his Facebook wall: “On behalf of the Board of Trustees, National Executive, Congress and the entire members of Actors Guild of Nigeria we congratulate one of the members of our Board Trustees who was just crowned the king of Umuihuocha Autonomous Community in Mbaise, Imo State. CONGRATULATIONS.”
Actor Segun Arinze hailed him on Instagram, writing, “All hail the new King Okey Bakassi.”
Fellow comedian Gbenga Adeyinka also penned a heartfelt message: “Congratulations on your new elevation by the Umuihuocha Autonomous Community! This is a remarkable achievement and I pray for your continued success in this important role. May you inspire positive change and demonstrate impressive leadership as you guide your community. Former Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) president Ejike Asiegbu described Okey as deserving of the honour, writing, “NWANNEM YOU ARE DESERVING OF ANY HONOUR BESTOWED ON YOU CONGRATULATIONS.”
Dr. Shaibu Husseini, Executive Director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), addressed him as “Ichie Na Umuihoichia,” while TV host Frank Edoho congratulated him with the words, “Congratulations, your Majesty!”
