Galatasaray today again became the champions of Türkiye’s Süper Lig after Nigerian superstar Victor Osimhen’s first half goal led the champions to a 3-0 victory over Kayserispor on Sunday.
Osimhen’s title-winning goal was announced by daughter Hailey over the stadium’s loudspeakers.
Today’s victory made history, earning them the first-ever five-star badge by a Turkish club, for clinching a third consecutive Super Lig title.
Victor Osimhen scored his 36th goal of the campaign.
It was a celebratory atmosphere at the Rams Park in Istanbul where the hosts left little doubt about the outcome. Osimhen opened the scoring in the 26th minute with a perfectly placed header from Gabriel Sara’s corner kick delivery, followed soon after by a goal from Barış Alper Yılmaz to double the advantage before a half hour was gone.
While visitors Kayserispor looked capable of perhaps crashing the party in the first half, all resistance was gone after halftime.
Galatasaray dominated the second half and even goalkeeper Fernando Muslera got in on the goal scoring, converting a late penalty kick to further add to the party.
Galatasaray have now won three consecutive Süper Lig titles and confirmed a domestic double this season after winning the Turkish Cup on May 14.
Osimhen is well on his way to Golden Boot honours in the league with 25 goals in 29 league games this season.
The striker on loan from Napoli has 36 goals in all competitions, a career high.
It ended up reinforcing their status as Turkey’s most successful club with a record 25 league titles.
The Nigerian striker, who has been a revelation since joining Galatasaray, broke the deadlock with a fantastic header, sparking wild celebrations among the passionate home crowd.
