The coalition of the country’s aviation unions has announced an indefinite strike beginning from Monday, August 11, 2025, over the Federal Government’s failure to implement a new salary structure for workers of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA).
The development was disclosed in a joint statement issued on Thursday, August 7, by four key aviation unions; National Union of Air Transport Employees (NUATE), Air Transport Services Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (ATSSSAN), Association of Nigeria Aviation Professionals (ANAP), Amalgamated Union of Public Corporations, Civil Service, Technical and Recreational Services Employees (AUPCTRE)
According to the unions, the strike follows the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued on July 31, 2025, to the Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo.
The ultimatum demanded the immediate implementation of a negotiated and approved salary adjustment for NAMA workers, which remains stalled eight months after conclusion of negotiations.
“As you are all aware, the notice of withdrawal of services given on 30th July, 2025, expires at the end of today,” the statement read.
“Therefore, all workers of NAMA are hereby directed to stop all services with effect from Monday, 11th August, 2025, at 05hrs, indefinitely.”
The unions warned that the action would severely disrupt flight operations across Nigeria and urged all airlines, allied companies, and the flying public to make alternative travel arrangements.
Only joint communication from the national secretariats of the four unions will be recognized for future directives, the statement added.
The notice was signed by; AbdulRasaq Saidu (Secretary General, ANAP), Odinakachukwu J. Igbokwe (Deputy General Secretary, NUATE), Frances Akinjole (Principal Deputy General Secretary, ATSSSAN), Alo Lawrence O. (General Secretary, AUPCTRE).
The strike notice has also been sent to key stakeholders, including the Minister of Aviation, Managing Directors of NAMA and FAAN, the Airport Police Command, the State Security Services at airports, and the Airline Operators of Nigeria.
