Bishop Oyedepo: You Want Hijab? Avoid Christian Schools

Founder of the Living Faith Church Worldwide, Bishop David Oyedepo, has openly opposed calls by some Muslim groups for female students in Christian mission schools to be allowed to wear the hijab.

Speaking during a church service, the renowned cleric described the demand as “overstepping boundaries,” likening it to “a tenant decreeing for the landlord.” He insisted that mission schools must maintain their founding principles and advised those pushing for hijab use to establish their own schools where such dress codes can be freely implemented.

“Leave the schools for the owners. Go to your school; men and women can wear hijab there. Stop putting your finger in the eyes of others when they are not blind.”

The Bishop warned against what he termed “harassment of the church in Nigeria,” stressing that “God is a consuming fire” and cautioning that such actions could attract divine judgment.

In his address, Oyedepo also prayed against societal vices such as ritual killings, kidnapping, and farmland destruction, asking for God’s judgment on those behind such crimes.

The hijab debate has been a recurring point of tension in states like Kwara, where Muslim groups have clashed with church authorities over dress codes in mission schools that predate state takeovers.

Oyedepo urged Christians to remain steadfast in defending their faith and to stand firm against policies or demands that undermine church values.
