Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Cuba and Canada, Ambassador Abdullahi Ibrahim Atta, has died at the age of 97.
His family announced that the revered elder Statesman and recipient of the OON National Honours breathed his last on Wednesday.
He was laid to rest on Thursday in Okene, Kogi State, in line with Islamic injunctions.
The late Ambassador Atta is survived by a wife and several illustrious children, in-laws, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
His 2011 Biography titled, International Diplomacy and Palace Politics: The Memoirs of an African Prince, revealed that Ambassador Atta was a co-founder of the Nigerian Intelligence Agency (NIA), as well as being the Author of several professional publications related to his areas of core competence, Diplomacy and Intelligence.
Atta grew up as a Prince in the Ohinoyi of Ebira’s palace in Okene, Kogi State, a background that reflected on his character, his home, his career and his society.
Atta was father-in-law to Afenifere chieftain, Chief Supo Shonibare.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Amina Atta and several sons and daughters.
Others surviving the late Ambassador’s are his children, who include the eldest daughter and wife of Chief Supo Shonibare the Afenifere kingpin –Mrs. Muni Shonibare, and another daughter who was former MTN Executive Director –Mrs. Amina Oyagbola.
Others are: UK-based son and AA Property Services owner –Prince Abdul Atta, son –Prince Hamza Atta, daughter –Mrs. Habiba Balogun (married to the son of Mrs. Hariat Balogun, former Attorney-General of Lagos State), daughter –Mrs. Aziza Atta- Adams, daughter –Mrs. Hajara Adeola (the wife of Mr. Fola Adeola, Chairman of Lotus Bank) and son –Prince Ibrahim Atta.
