A veterinary doctor and former President of the Veterinary Medical Council Association (FCT Chapter) and Native of Nru Nsukka, Enugu State Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, has been killed following a kidnapping incident at his residence in Kungabokun, a remote village in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that borders Niger State.

The attackers also abducted his three young children, who remain in custody of the Kidnappers as of the time of this report with no communication or ransom demands received from the perpetrators.

The attack occurred on Wednesday, October 1, 2025, at approximately 11:45 p.m., adding to the alarming wave of violent crimes currently plaguing Nigeria’s capital city.

According to sources, armed men broke into Dr. Ogbu’s home through a window and forcefully took him and his children away to an unknown location, leaving behind his wife and a two-week-old baby.

Police operatives from the Byazhin Division, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, and local vigilantes were immediately mobilised to the scene.

A search and rescue operation was launched, and on Thursday morning, Dr. Ogbu’s lifeless dead body was found near the area of the abduction.

Sending shockwaves through his community and the wider veterinary and humanitarian circles in which he was deeply involved.

Until his death Dr. Ogbu worked with the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and known for his advocacy work within the veterinary profession.

He ran the Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu Foundation, which supported underprivileged children and orphans, particularly those seeking access to education or vocational training.

He had also recently appealed to the Federal Government for the creation of a Federal Ministry of Veterinary Medicine, emphasizing its importance to national health and the economy.

This incident adds to the recent wave of violent crimes across Abuja, including armed robberies, kidnappings, and gang attacks.

Just days earlier, Somtochukwu Christelle Maduagwu, a presenter with ARISE News, died during a robbery attack at her apartment in Katampe, Abuja.

She reportedly fell to her death while trying to escape the robbers by jumping from her third-floor balcony. Her neighbours say the incident is part of a string of robberies affecting the area.

Efforts by journalists to reach the FCT Commissioner of Police, CP Saka Ajao Adewale, for comments are still ongoing.

Residents are calling on the government and security agencies to take immediate and decisive action as insecurity continues to spread within Nigeria’s capital city.
