Police in Ekpan, within the Uvwie Local Government Area of Delta State, have arrested a woman accused of selling her two-month-old son for N1.5 million.

The arrest followed a viral report she had previously circulated, claiming the infant was kidnapped from her on Monday along the NNPC Complex Road in Warri.

Her false claim has misled several mainstream media to report on Monday that her infant baby was kidnapped, catching in on the rife lucrative pastime in the country.

The suspect, identified only as Rita and a resident of Ugbokodo in Okpe Local Government Area, had initially informed her husband that their baby boy had been abducted.

She had alleged that the kidnappers targeted her while she was also carrying another child, who was left unharmed.

Stonix News gathered that the husband grew suspicious of his wife’s account.

Notably, he is not the father of the second child she brought home.

He subsequently reported the incident to Ekpan Police and urged them to conduct a thorough investigation.

During rigorous police interrogation, the woman allegedly confessed to having sold the baby for N1.5 million to a pastor on NNPC Complex Road—the very location where she had falsely claimed the kidnapping occurred.

Stonix News contacted SP Bright Edafe, the Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, who confirmed the deceit and arrest.

“The child was not kidnapped, but sold by the mother. The mother is in custody and the baby is rescued from the couple she sold (the baby) to,” he noted.
