The Federal Government has praised Nollywood actress, producer and filmmaker Funke Akindele following the record-breaking performance of her latest movie, Behind the Scenes, at the Nigerian box office.

The commendation came through the National Orientation Agency (NOA), which described the feat as a major boost for Nigeria’s creative industry and a clear sign of Nollywood’s growing global influence. Eyes Of Lagos reports,

Behind the Scenes recently crossed the ₦2.1 billion mark in ticket sales, officially becoming the first Nollywood film to surpass ₦2 billion at the domestic box office.

Reacting to the milestone, the NOA celebrated Akindele’s achievement, noting that the film resonated strongly with audiences both at home and abroad.

“From Lagos to Toronto, from cinemas in Abuja to theatres overseas — this movie had everyone locked in,” the agency stated.

The agency also revealed that Funke Akindele has now become the first filmmaker to top the African box office for three consecutive years, an achievement that places her among the most successful filmmakers on the continent.
