The South West Zonal Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, has strongly condemned the violent attack on Woro community in Kwara State, which led to the loss of dozens of innocent lives and the destruction of homes and livelihoods.
Describing the incident as “a tragic failure of government responsibility,” Owokoniran, in a Monday statement issued by ADC Media Network 2.0, said the killings reflected another tragic indexation of the failure of this Bola Ahmed Tinubu government in securing the people.
He said: “The question for us now is which community next? If the government cannot secure the communities they might as well be prepared to protect themselves. Enough of this humiliation and endless hatred and human sacrifice.
“We are all suffering from this terrible tragedy and we are all paying the ultimate price for this evil act. Children raised in this cruel period will never forget this horrific tragedy in their lifetime. We must not let this tragedy continue to consume our children and our nation. Something must give if this government has no answer for this tragedy.”
Owokoniran expressed deep sympathy with the families of the victims and survivors who have given painful firsthand accounts of the horror they endured.
“No Nigerian should live in fear in their own home. When communities are attacked and citizens are butchered while the government remains reactive or silent, confidence in governance collapses,” he said.
He called on the Federal and Kwara State governments to immediately:
• secure the affected communities
• bring the perpetrators to justice through lawful means
• provide urgent relief and compensation to victims
• strengthen intelligence and community based security to prevent future attacks
Owokoniran warned that persistent insecurity, if unchecked, threatened national unity and undermines public trust in leadership.
“Protecting lives is the most basic duty of government. When that duty fails, everything else becomes meaningless,” he added.
The ADC reaffirmed its commitment to a Nigeria where every life matters, communities are protected, and leadership is measured by action, not excuses.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Woro,” the ADC chieftain said. “Justice must not be delayed, and accountability must not be avoided.”
