Following the endorsement of Senator Solomon Olamilekan Adeola, popularly called Yayi, as the consensus gubernatorial candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) for Ogun State in the 2027 election, a support group, Ogun West Professionals for Yayi (OGWPY) has expressed confidence that the ruling party will win next year’s governorship poll in the state.
OGWPY noted that with the statewide decision to adopt Senator Yayi as its consensus governorship candidate in the 2027 poll, the victory of the ruling APC in next year’s election is “firmly secured”.
The group stated this on Sunday in a statement by its Chief Spokesman, Dr. Morakinyo Sola Oloyede, entitled, “Yayi’s Emergence: A Defining Moment for Unity, Equity and Progress.”
OGWPY described the consensus arrangement that produced Senator Adeola Yayi as the APC governorship candidate in Ogun State as a “masterstroke”, which has effectively set the stage for early coordination, strategic campaigning and electoral dominance” throughout the state.
The group further noted that Senator Adeola Yayi’s consensus endorsement “represents a credible pathway to accelerated development,” adding that “his leadership will consolidate Ogun State’s position as Nigeria’s fastest-growing industrial hub.”
OGWPY however commended President Bola Tinubu, Governor Dapo Abiodun and former governors Olusegun Osoba, Otunba Senator Gbenga Daniel and Senator Ibikunle Amosun, as well as the ruling APC in Ogun State for the landmark decision to adopt Senator Yayi as the party’s governorship candidate in next year’s election.
It noted that the collective endorsement of Senator Yayi by President Tinubu, Governor Abiodun and his three predecessors “is not only invaluable but also emblematic of visionary leadership anchored on continuity, stability and progress.” It further hailed them for “standing firmly on the side of history.”
The group also commended the “maturity, patriotism and magnanimity” displayed by the other governorship aspirants from Ogun West, particularly Hon.Gboyega Nasir Isiaka and Hon. Abiodun Akinlade “for surbordinating personal ambition to collective aspiration,” noting, “Their sacrifice has elevated the political culture of our state and strengthened the foundation for an inclusive victory in 2027.”
The statement further noted Yayi’s endorsement by other governorship aspirants from outside Ogun West, including Senator Iyabo Obasanjo; former Central Bank of Nigeria deputy governor, Mr. Tunde Lemo and a former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Kayode Amusan, stressing that their actions “reinforce the growing convergence of political strength and technocratic credibility around Senator Adeola’s candidacy.”
OGWPY also noted Senator Adeola’s candidacy as “a strategic consolidation” signalling “a deliberate and intelligent alignment of interests designed to avoid divisiveness, accelerate mobilisation and position the APC for a resounding victory in 2027.”
Highlighting its role in Senator Adeola Yayi’s emergence, OGWPY stated that his historic consensus endorsement was not achieved in isolation. The development, the group stated is partly a product of sustained engagement, including its own Media Chat of February 1, 2026 in Ilaro, which featured the Senate Leader, Opeyemi Bamidele.
The Media Chat, the statement noted “catalysed a new wave of political consciousness among professionals and technocrats, galvanising support for Senator Adeola’s candidacy and reinforcing a shared developmental vision for Ogun State.”
It added, “Empirical indicators following that engagement showed a decisive public tilt in favour of Senator Adeola Yayi, with widespread acknowledgement of his track record in infrastructure delivery and empowerment initiatives across all 20 local government areas of Ogun State.”
OGWPY added that Senator Adeola’s candidacy is particularly remarkable as it “represents not just political endorsement, but a long-awaited restoration of equity and justice” for Ogun West Senatorial District, which has never produced a governor for the state since its creation over 50 years ago.
The group reaffirmed its commitment to constructive engagement in the interest of Ogun State as a whole.
