VIDEO: Police Officer Detained Over N10,000 Bribe In Idimu, Lagos
The Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest and detention of an officer accused of extorting a motorist in the Idimu area of Lagos State.
The viral footage showed the driver claimed he was stopped despite having complete vehicle documentation. The officer allegedly pointed out a discrepancy in the car’s color, describing it as “grey” instead of “ash,” as indicated on the documents.
The motorist however said the officer threatened him with arrest and initially demanded ₦30,000, before allegedly reducing the amount to ₦10,000. Meanwhile, in an update, the Police Force has revealed that the officer has been identified, taken into custody, and issued a query.
The Force added that further details on the outcome of the investigation will be made public, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct under the leadership of Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Speaking on the case, Facebook user, Emmanuel Tobi wrote: “Losing your police job, career, gratuity, and the respect of family, friends, and neighbors… all for ₦10,000 (less than $10) in bribe?
