Davido Dumps Music To Campaign For Uncle Gov Adeleke’s Reelection
Nigerian ace musician Davido says he would be taking a two-month break from his artistic engagements for full commitment to the reelection campaign of his uncle and Osun State’s Governor Ademola Adeleke.
Davido’s Dad, Billionaire businessman, Dr. Adedeji Adeleke, is elder brother to Senator now Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The off-season Osun State governorship election will hold Saturday 15th August 2026.
The singer made the announcement on Tuesday in Ede, Osun State capital, while inaugurating a 43-man youth campaign committee christened the “Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team.
While Davido has been named Chairman of the committee, Adeshina Kayode Olododo would serve as Vice Chairman, and Hon. Gbenga Idowu as Secretary.
With coordinators appointed across the three senatorial districts, nine Federal constituencies, the 30 local government areas, and the Modakeke Area Office, the committee is designed to lead grassroots mobilisation efforts across the state.
“I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle, not only because he is my uncle but because I believe in what he is doing and the work ahead,” Davido told the gathering.
He called on members of the youth committee to intensify grassroots mobilisation, urging them to engage residents directly through door-to-door outreach and community engagement.
“Let’s do door-to-door mobilisation across all local governments, showcasing what the Governor has done and what he plans to do. Let’s engage people in our communities and connect them with the governor’s work,” he said.
The singer’s decision follows his earlier appointment in April 2026 as Head of Youth Mobilisation for the Governor’s campaign council, a role that places him at the centre of the youth engagement strategy for the August 15 poll.
Davido had announced the appointment on his X account, writing: “We look forward to a smooth campaign council and your re-election, Your Excellency 4+4.”
Political analysts note that Davido’s influence, particularly among young voters and on social media, is seen as a major asset for the Governor’s re-election bid, having played a prominent role in the lead-up to the 2022 governorship election by campaigning both physically and online in support of Adeleke.
The development comes months after Davido joined the Accord Party in December 2025 to align politically with his uncle, who is seeking a second term under the party after leaving the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Governor Ademola Adeleke faces challengers including Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Dr Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) for the August 15 election.
The singer’s political involvement extends beyond campaign duties, as he was also appointed Chairman of the Osun Sports Trust Fund, a role aimed at attracting investment into sports development in the state.
