Son Of Gov Adeleke’s Women Leader Attacked, Shot Dead In Osun; Accord Blames APC

The leadership of Governor Ademola Adeleke’s party, Accord, has reacted to the killing of Kolade Eluyera, son of its women’s leader in the Council of Osun State and demanded the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators.

The party has blamed the killing on the state’s opposition All Progressives Congress APC.

Yet to be identified gunmen, on Friday night, killed Eluyera, near Onireke Mosque in Ikire, where he was attacked and shot dead.

His body was later recovered with gunshot wounds.

In a statement issued on Monday, Maxwell Mgbudem, National Chairman of the party, alleged that Eluyera was killed by political thugs linked to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

While describing the killing as “outrageous and barbaric,” Mgbudem alleged that the killers wanted to silence the deceased’s mother because of her political activities in the state.

“The party is devastated over the cruel murder of a promising young man whose only offence was being a member of Accord, his constitutional right of freedom of association,” the statement reads.

The party Chairman said the killing would not deter members from pursuing “a better, greater and prosperous Osun state.”

He added that attempts to intimidate opposition members or destroy campaign materials would not influence the outcome of the election.

“Bloodshed, harassment of Accord members and destruction of billboards of a governor seeking re-election cannot add a single vote to the main opposition party in the state; instead, it will drastically reduce the little sympathy votes it will manage to get from some of its members,” Mgbudem said.

He criticised security agencies for their failure to avert the violence, protect lives and safeguard property in the state ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

“Accord demands the immediate arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators of this dastardly murder and their sponsors to face the full weight of the law,” he added.

The party Chairman urged security agencies to be proactive and ensure the safety of residents during the electoral season.

He said the party frowned at the politics of bitterness, rancour and violence, while stressing the need for issue-based campaigns ahead of the governorship poll.

Mgbudem reiterated the party’s commitment to Ademola Adeleke’s re-election as Governor of Osun.
