Senate Swears In 4 New Senators To Give APC 88 Majority, Opposition 21
The four new Senators elected in last Saturday’s by-elections were today Wednesday sworn into the Senate.
By today’s inauguration, the ruling and majority APC now has 88 senators, with the opposition sharing the rest with ADC- 9, PDP- 5, NDC-4, APGA- 1, LP- 1 and Accord -1, totaling 109.
The lawmakers were elected to represent districts across Ondo, Nasarawa, Enugu, and Rivers States.
They include Professor Francis Faduyile (APC, Ondo South) who replaced Jimoh Ibrahim, who is now the country’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and Barrister Danladi Halilu Envulu-Anza (APC, Nasarawa North), who replaced Senator Godiya Akwashiki, who died in December 2025.
Others are Asogwa Ikeje Israel (APC, Enugu North), replacing Senator Okey Ezea, who passed away in November 2025 and Olaka Nwogu (PDP, Rivers South East), who replaced Senator Barry Mpigi, who died in February, 2026.
While praying for the repose of the souls of the departed lawmakers, Senate President Godswill Akpabio, who presided over the plenary, congratulated the newly inaugurated Senators.
