Canada Court Jails Nigerian Woman 6 Years For $755,000 Daycare Fraud

A Canadian court has sentenced Ivon Beatrice Okafor, a Nigerian woman, to six years in federal prison after she was convicted of defrauding four licensed daycare centres of approximately $755,000.

Okafor was found guilty of orchestrating a fraudulent scheme that resulted in significant financial losses for the affected childcare facilities.

Authorities said the fraud targeted licensed daycare centres, leading to the misappropriation of hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The court, while delivering its judgement, held that the scale of the fraud and its impact on the affected institutions warranted a substantial custodial sentence.

In addition to the six-year prison term, the court is also expected to enforce measures aimed at recovering proceeds linked to the fraudulent activities, in line with applicable laws.
