The July 30–31, 2026 engagement marks a major implementation milestone for the partnership established in June through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Chams Corporation and OAU to provide students and eligible staff with access to computers through flexible payment arrangements, while also supporting technology-driven student entrepreneurship.

A Chams delegation led by the Chief Executive Officer, Chams Corporation, Dr Olufemi Oyenuga; Managing Director, Chams Mobile, Dr Mrs Tolu Aofolaju; Executive Director, Chams Mobile, Mr Akinsanmi Adeleke; and General Manager, SmartCity, Mr Kayode Arogundade, met with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Adebayo Simeon Bamire, Deputy Vice-Chancellors and other members of the university’s management.

“ The commencement of the rollout marks an important milestone in our partnership with Obafemi Awolowo University. At Chams Corporation, we believe that access to the right digital tools can significantly enhance learning, innovation and productivity among young people. Through the Kadara Initiative, we are making computers more accessible to students; staffs and associated affiliates ; by providing a flexible financing model that reduces the burden of upfront payment “, Dr Oyenuga said.

Corroborating him, Managing Director, Chams Mobile, Dr Tolu Aofolaju said: “ Our engagement with OAU demonstrates our commitment to ensuring that the MoU translates into measurable benefits for the university community. We look forward to seeing strong participation from students and to replicating this model across other institutions as we deepen our university device and digital inclusion strategy.”

The meeting reviewed progress on the BNPL partnership and implementation plans, with both institutions reaffirming their commitment to translating the MoU into tangible benefits for the university community.

The operational phase introduces two major initiatives. The first is the Kadara Initiative, branded under the LENS product series, which enables eligible OAU students and confirmed members of staff to acquire laptops and desktop computers and pay in instalments over periods ranging from 12 to 24 months, subject to the scheme’s eligibility requirements.
The second is the ChamsCorp Scholars Programme, targeted at technically inclined students with viable technology or business ideas.

The programme offers a combination of funding, internship opportunities, mentorship and a technology fellowship pathway, with a job-security commitment upon graduation.

Following the management engagement, the Chams team established information points at male and female student halls of residence, where students received direct briefings on eligibility requirements, available benefits and the application process for both initiatives.

Market observers said the development could deepen digital access within the university system by addressing the high upfront cost of computers while creating a structured pathway for students to develop technology and business solutions.

The latest engagement underscores Chams Corporation’s strategy of moving beyond institutional agreements to measurable implementation and end-user adoption. The company said it would monitor uptake of the Kadara Initiative and ChamsCorp Scholars Programme and extend similar engagements to other institutions under its university device strategy.
