Eagle Online Publisher Dotun Oladipo Gets Sept 11 Burial Date

Journalist and Publisher of The Eagle Online, Dotun Oladipo, who died in Lagos on Tuesday, August 25, at the age of 56, will undergo final burial rites on 10th and 11th September, according to his family.

According to the family, a service of songs will be held at DayStar Church, Oregun, Ikeja, Lagos, on Thursday, September 10.

The burial service will take place at the same venue on Friday, September 11, followed by his interment.

Oladipo’s death has drawn an outpouring of tributes from across the media industry and beyond, with President Bola Tinubu describing his passing as a painful loss to the Nigerian media community and the nation.

The President said Oladipo’s professional career demonstrated the important role of journalism in strengthening democracy by keeping citizens informed and holding public officials accountable.

Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu also described Oladipo’s sudden death as “shocking, painful and heartbreaking,” while the Nigerian Guild of Editors praised his career as one defined by professionalism, courage and intellectual depth.

Oladipo was President of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers from 2017 to 2021 and was among the foundational members who helped shape the association during its formative years.

He also served as a former Politics Editor of PUNCH Newspapers and worked with Nigerian Tribune, Nigerian Compass and The Sun before founding The Eagle Online in 2011.
