Man Raises Alarm As Sister Disappears In Qatar 72 Hours After Landing
Mr. Jonathan Jibo, has sounded an alarm on X after his 37-year-old sister vanished in Doha more than 48 hours after her flight from Lagos landed safely.
The woman, Ms. Saratu Jibo Yusuf, a veteran Lagos airport worker of nearly 12 years, had arranged her own accommodation and a job in Qatar well before travelling.
Jonathan shared her photos and flight ticket online and urged his followers to retweet as he attempts to get CCTV footage from Doha.
The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority’s Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, Michael Achimugu, is assisting in efforts to locate a 37-year-old Nigerian woman who has been unreachable since arriving in Doha, Qatar.
The woman travelled from Lagos to Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR1408 on Tuesday and reportedly communicated with her brother via WhatsApp shortly before the aircraft landed.
According to Achimugu, the airline has reviewed CCTV footage and confirmed that the woman arrived safely, collected her luggage and left the airport terminal.
He said, “I have confirmed, via the airline, that CCTV shows your sister arrived safely, picked her bags, and exited the terminal.”
Achimugu said further checks would be carried out to establish whether the woman made it to the hotel she had booked before travelling.
He explained that the verification process had been delayed by the public holidays but was expected to determine whether she reached the hotel and whether she used the accommodation’s designated pick-up vehicle.
According to him, every Qatar visa booking must be connected to a specific hotel reservation. He said Discover Qatar would verify the hotel details and establish whether the woman checked in.
“In some cases, passengers arrive at the hotel booked, and then leave quietly. DISCOVER QATAR will check to confirm the name of her hotel, and whether your sister did, indeed, get to the hotel,” Achimugu said.
The NCAA official also disclosed that he had alerted the airline to concerns surrounding possible human trafficking and forced labour. He said confirmation from the hotel would help determine the appropriate next steps.
He said, “If she did not arrive at the hotel, a manhunt would ensue. It is easy to track people once they have arrived in Doha.”

Achimugu, however, clarified that the case does not fall under his official responsibilities, noting that he was intervening to support the woman’s family.
The woman’s brother, Jonathan Jibo, had earlier raised the alarm on X, stating that he had been unable to contact his sister for more than 48 hours.
Jibo said she was visiting Doha for the first time and had no friends in the country. He added that her accommodation had been arranged and paid for several months before her trip.
According to him, the person assigned to pick her up at the airport waited for her but was unable to find her, despite the airline confirming that she had collected her luggage.
Jibo also disclosed that his sister had worked at Lagos airport for nearly 12 years and was expected to resume work in Doha a few weeks after arriving.
He wrote, “Till now I can’t reach her phone, online, I don’t even know what went wrong.”
He subsequently appealed to the Nigerian Embassy in Doha and other relevant authorities to assist with efforts to locate her.
In another update on Saturday, Jibo said his sister’s details had been sent to the Nigerian President in Doha and subsequently forwarded to the Nigerian Embassy in Qatar.
He said the family expected to receive an update from the embassy on Monday, explaining that the diplomatic mission does not operate during weekends.
The family is now awaiting the outcome of the checks to determine whether the woman reached her booked hotel and what happened after she left the airport.
