Igbo Royal Fathers Honour First Lady Oluremi With ‘Oso Di Eme 1’ Title In Imo As She Bags Honorary Doctorate Degree And Pleads For Tinubu To Be Given 2nd Term
Nigeria’s First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu, has been honoured with a traditional title, as well as an honorary doctorate degree, during a visit to Imo State, where she lobbied Igbo leaders to allow her husband enjoy a second term as President.
Traditional rulers in the state jointly conferred on her the title “Oso Di Eme 1,” which translates to “She Does Like Her Husband.”
Videos from the ceremony show the First Lady seated among traditional rulers as she was presented with a decorative fan bearing her new title.
The ceremony was held in a traditional setting, with the monarchs dressed in full chieftaincy regalia, while Oluremi Tinubu wore colourful attire featuring APC branding and traditional beads.
The honour was part of her visit to Imo State, and preceded the conferment of an honorary doctorate degree on her by the Federal University of Technology, Owerri.
During the visit, Imo State Governor Hope Uzodinma praised the First Lady, describing her as the best First Lady he had encountered in more than four decades in politics. He also highlighted her compassion and influence.
Oluremi appealed to voters in the South-East to support the re-election of her husband, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, in the 2027 presidential election.
Speaking in Owerri, the Imo State capital, during her official visit in which she distributed empowerment items to local women, the First Lady explained that both she and the President were working to build a stronger nation.
“Make una vote for Mr President, we go work for una and Nigeria go better. I want to enjoy Nigeria at old age, so I will work for Nigeria, for my old age,” she said.
The initiative was executed through the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Sustainable Development Goals and targets 18,500 beneficiaries nationwide.
In the South-East region, 500 women across each of the five states are slated to receive business equipment, including generators, industrial grinding machines, gas cylinders, and ovens.
Highlighting the scope of the programme, Mrs. Tinubu noted that Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma supplemented the state’s quota with items for an additional 2,000 women, raising the total number of local beneficiaries to 2,500.
Following the Governor’s contribution, the First Lady announced a direct financial injection of N100,000 in cash support for each recipient under the programme.
“Recognising the typical role women play in nation building, this is in line with the agenda of Mr President, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which prioritises economic growth and sustainable development for all Nigerians, particularly women,” she stated.
Mrs. Tinubu encouraged the recipients to maximise the assistance to secure economic stability for their households.
“Let it serve as a foundation for creating a better life for you and your family,” she added
