Gov Okpebholo: Nigerians Enjoying Under Tinubu Compared To UK Where Fuel Costs N3,000 A Litre
PN360/FO…Edo State’s Governor Monday Okpebholo says that thanks to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Nigerians currently buying fuel for N1,400 per litre were living the good life compared to the United Kingdom where a litre of fuel sells for more than N3,000.
Okpebholo made the remark on Thursday, September 24, 2026 at the “Operation Rescue Benin-Asaba Road” event in Edo State.
According to the Governor, he visited London the previous week and bought petrol to compare prices with Nigeria.
“Let me tell you, after conversion, it’s about N3,000-something for one litre of fuel,” the Governor said.
According to Okpebholo, the comparison showed that Nigerians were paying less for petrol than motorists in the UK.
“We are doing very well here. The President is stabilising the economy. He’s an economist,” he said.
His comments come amid renewed concerns over the rising cost of petrol and other essential commodities following the removal of the petrol subsidy and subsequent increases in pump prices.
Okpebholo said the economic reforms being implemented by President Bola Tinubu were difficult but would eventually produce results.
He added: “I want to let you know, very soon Nigeria will be on the cruising level. Nigeria will be on a cruising level.
“What we are seeing in Nigeria today is reform, and it’s a very difficult one. When an aircraft is taking off, do you see the air hostess serving food? They will never do that until the seatbelt sign is turned off, meaning the aircraft has reached cruising level. Soon, Nigeria will be at cruising level.”
