APC Dumped By 8 Zamfara Assemblymen Lamenting Insecurity, Poor Leadership

Eight serving members of the Zamfara State House of Assembly have resigned from the ruling All Progressives Congress APC).

The lawmakers announced their resignation today, citing negligence of the Rescue Government, lack of support for the people, and failure to give priority and proper attention to the insecurity bedeviling Zamfara State.

In their separate resignation letters, the lawmakers all gave similar reasons for leaving the party, which include lack of unity among party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice, inability of the government to overcome security challenges in their constituencies and the state at large, and above all, nonchalant attitude and poor leadership of Governor Dauda Lawal.

The eight lawmakers who resigned are:

1. Hon. Ibrahim T. Tukur – Bakura Constituency
2. Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara – Talata Mafara South Constituency
3. Hon. Member representing Bukkuyum North Constituency
4. Hon. Bashar Aliyu – Gummi I Constituency
5. Hon. Faruk Musa Dosara – Maradun I Constituency
6. Hon. Basiru Bello – Bungudu West Constituency
7. Hon. Nasiru Abdullahi – Maru North Constituency
8. Hon. Mukhtaru Nasiru Jikan Shehu – Kaura Namoda North Constituency

In one of the letters, Hon. Ibrahim T. Tukur wrote:

“With much respect sir, I Hon. Ibrahim T. Tukur member representing Bakura constituency, Zamfara State House of Assembly hereby, resign my membership from All Progressive Congress (APC) with immediate effect. This decision came up after careful and wide consultations due to lack of unity among the party stakeholders in the state, deception, uncertainties, injustice and inability of the government to overcome security situation in my constituency, state at large and above all nonchalant attitude, poor leadership of the Governor.”

Similarly, Hon. Aliyu Ango Kagara of Talata Mafara South said his decision followed wide consultations, blaming injustice, deception, and the governor’s nonchalant attitude.

All the lawmakers expressed gratitude to the leadership and members of the APC for their support and cooperation during their stay in the party.

According to political observers in the state, this is just the beginning, as many more APC members are expected to leave the party in the coming days ahead of the 2027 general elections.
