Fresh details have emerged on the tragedy that hit the family of Professor Hadiza Abdullahi Usman, the Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru in Yobe State, who lost her twin daughters last weekend.
The deceased were Dr. Hadiyah Usman Abdullahi, a Medical Doctor, and Aidah Usman Abdullahi, a Pharmacist.
Aged 28 years old, both sisters lived with sickle cell disease.
Reports indicated that one of the twin sisters, Dr. Aidah Usman, was married the year prior to their passing, while specific details regarding the marital status of her twin sister, Dr. Hadiya Usman, have not been widely publicised in official reports.
Dr. Hadiyah had been admitted at the Federal Medical Centre, Nguru for about seven days after developing complications from a sickle cell crisis.
She passed away on Friday, October 2, 2026, and was buried that day after funeral prayers at the Emir’s palace in Nguru.
At about the same time, her twin sister Aidah was also on admission at the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital for similar health concerns.
She responded to treatment and was discharged to go home.
Two days after her sister’s burial, Aidah went to visit Hadiyah’s graveside.
It was after the visit that she became unwell and was taken to the hospital, where she later passed away on Sunday, October 4.
The Federal Medical Centre, Nguru later confirmed the passing of Aidah on its official Facebook page, noting that she was the second twin daughter of Professor Usman.
The twins were described as inseparable from childhood, sharing a close bond.
Their deaths have sent shockwaves through the medical community in Yobe, particularly because of the closeness of the two deaths.
