Pregnant Briton, 40, Who Relocated To Nigeria With Her Yoruba Husband, Dies After Baby’s Death In The Womb
Claire Chadwick, a 40-year-old British woman who relocated from Cardiff, Wales in UK, to Nigeria with her husband, Ibrahim, has died with her unborn baby after developing sepsis.
Notable faces on social media, she and Lawal her husband posted videos on Facebook, TikTok and Instagram, documenting their relationship, faith and food challenges, attracting thousands of followers.
She was pregnant with a girl and was in her 37th week.
The baby died in the womb and Claire then developed sepsis, an infection that spreads throughout the body, and died of septic shock.
The available information does not specify the city, exact date or hospital, nor does it confirm whether there were any failures in medical care.
A 19-year-old son was left behind in Wales.
On October 30, her sister Shannon launched the “Bringing Claire Home” campaign to repatriate both bodies, a distance of about 3,000 miles, and cover legal costs.
The goal was about $13,000 and, according to media reports, has already been surpassed.
“More than anything, we want them both to come home so they can rest with dignity, surrounded by the family who loves them,” Shannon said.
The Foreign Office confirmed that it is supporting the family of a British woman who died in Nigeria.
Announcing the sad passage on Facebook, Lawal wrote in a piece he titled, A HEARTBREAKING ANNOUNCEMENT💔🕊️:
“It is with a deeply broken heart that I share the heartbreaking news of the passing of my beloved wife, Claire, and our precious baby.
“My beloved wife, Claire, sadly passed away on Thursday, 29 October 2026.
“Words cannot adequately express the pain, emptiness and heartbreak that come with losing the two people who meant so much to me. This is an incredibly difficult time for me and both our families, and I am still trying to come to terms with this painful reality.
“Claire was my wife, my best friend, my companion and an irreplaceable part of my life. Our little one was a blessing we were so eagerly looking forward to welcoming. They will forever remain in my heart.
“TO CLAIRE’S FAMILY
“I want to express my deepest condolences and heartfelt appreciation to Claire’s entire family during this devastating time. I know that this loss is deeply painful for all of us, and my heart goes out to everyone who loved her.
“Thank you for standing together, for your love, kindness and support, and especially for taking the initiative to organise the GoFundMe to help bring Claire home so she can be laid to rest. Your efforts, generosity and support mean more to me than words can express. I am deeply grateful to every member of the family.
“TO OUR FOLLOWERS, FRIENDS AND SUPPORTERS
“I honestly don’t know where to begin in expressing my gratitude to everyone who has reached out to us.
“Thank you for the overwhelming calls, text messages, prayers, condolences, encouragement and every expression of love you have shown during this difficult period.
“To everyone who has checked on me, sent messages, offered support and kept our family in your thoughts and prayers, please know that none of it has gone unnoticed. Even when I haven’t been able to respond individually, I have seen and deeply appreciate your kindness.
“You welcomed us into your homes through our videos, celebrated our relationship, laughed with us and became part of our journey. The love you have shown us during this painful time is something I will never forget.
“I will be taking time away from social media to mourn and process these losses.”
