The attention of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Lagos State has been drawn to the recent acts of intimidation and violent disruption targeted at our members and local government activities across parts of the state.
We have received credible reports that certain political elements, apparently threatened by the growing presence and popularity of the ADC, are deploying thugs to disrupt our meetings, ward engagements, and mobilization programmes.
Such actions are anti-democratic, unlawful, and unacceptable.
Let it be clearly stated: Lagos belongs to all Nigerians, regardless of tribe, religion, or political affiliation. No individual or political party has the right to monopolize the civic or political space or suppress others from exercising their constitutional rights.
The ADC stands for peaceful participation, inclusiveness, and good governance, and we will not be provoked into confrontation or violence. We urge our members across all Local Government Areas to remain calm, law abiding, and focused on our collective mission to build a credible alternative for Lagosians.
We call on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, who was also a former Governor of Lagos State, and the current Governor of Lagos State, to urgently address this rising injustice which stands as a direct insult and disrespect to our democracy.
We also call on the Nigeria Police Force and all relevant security agencies to quickly investigate and intervene in this matter to ensure that the lives and properties of Lagosians and members of the ADC are fully protected.
Let it be known that the leadership of the ADC in Lagos State is on top of the situation, and all necessary steps are being taken to ensure that our members continue to operate freely, safely, and within the law.
We encourage all members, supporters, and lovers of democracy to remain calm, disciplined, and law abiding, as we continue to advance the cause of democracy and responsible leadership in Lagos State.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) will continue to mobilize, unite, and engage citizens across Lagos with integrity, inclusiveness, and a firm belief that a New Nigeria is possible, one that begins with a free, fair and inclusive Lagos.
“With ADC, a New Nigeria is Possible.”
