Nigeria today stands at a critical point in its democratic journey. The increasing hardship faced by citizens, the rising insecurity, and the perceived decline in institutional trust have created a climate of frustration and uncertainty across the country.
Over the past few years, Nigeria has witnessed:
- A steady rise in inflation, which has eroded household incomes and reduced the purchasing power of ordinary Nigerians;
- Widening unemployment rates, especially among young people, contributing to social vulnerability.
iii. Persistent security challenges, including banditry, kidnapping, communal conflicts, and increased urban crime rates, which continue to threaten lives and economic activities.
- Inconsistent application of the rule of law, which has weakened public confidence in key institutions and the justice system.
These realities have pushed many Nigerians, particularly the youth towards desperate alternatives, including internet fraud, street begging, drug abuse, robbery, and other vices. These are symptoms of deeper economic and social distress that require urgent intervention.
As a nation, we cannot ignore these symptoms. They reflect not just policy shortcomings but also a lack of care for the people. There is a need for a change in attitude and policies review that places people first.
We passionately appeal to the President and his team to prioritize policies that:
- Strengthen security infrastructure and intelligence coordination,
- Provide targeted economic relief for struggling households,
iii. Create sustainable job opportunities,
- Rebuild public trust through transparency and respect for the rule of law,
- Invest in education and youth development, and
- Support small businesses and critical sectors of the economy.
I appeal to all Nigerians that despite the challenges we face under this rudderless administration, we must not lose hope. Our nation’s strength has always come from its people, their resilience, unity, and belief in a better future.
I encourage all Nigerians to join hands with the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in working toward national renewal and restoring the dignity, stability, and prosperity that our founding fathers and other heroes of our independence envisioned.
Nigeria can rise again with leadership that listens,
leadership that cares,
leadership that puts Nigeria and the people first.
