A long-drawn drama played out at the final burial of Gospel singer, Bunmi Adeoye Akinnanu, alias “Omije Ojumi,” as her children rejected and shouted at their biological father showing up for the first time after 15 years.

The episode unfolded as the remains of Nigerian Gospel musician, Bunmi Adeoye Akinnanu, popularly known for her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” who passed away on January 12, was being laid to rest at Atan Cemetery in Lagos.

She was finally buried that Wednesday January 28.

Her interment was however interrupted by a drama that took place at her graveside between her estranged husband’s family members and their kids.

Videos circulating on social media captured a heated exchange between the singer’s son and a relative of her ex-husband during the graveside rites.

The situation escalated when her estranged husband, who was not physically present, attempted to speak with the children via a video call.

In one clip, a relative was seen pleading with her son and screaming “He’s your family and he loves you. We want to show our love to you. Your father loves you.” The boy responded angrily, shouting, “I am not!”

The video shows the late singers ex husband trying to talk to their daughter on the phone and she looked uninterested.

During her tribute at the burial, the singer’s daughter expressed her frustration saying “My father left me. He did not care, he did not call. Imagine, now he’s calling, when he knows that someone has left.”

This was however resisted by her family members on grounds that the graveside wasn’t the place for him to demand to speak with the children who were mourning the passing of their mum.

Speaking emotionally on phone, the foreign-based man alleged that their mother cut off every channel he tried to use to reach them.

“Your mother blocked every access I could use to get to you. Whenever I went to your school, she involved the police to have me arrested,” he said.

According to him, he once managed to speak with one of the children years ago while they were still students at Front Liner School.

“I called your school back then and spoke to you through the school line. I warned you not to tell your mummy because I knew she wouldn’t allow me talk to you. I don’t know how she found out, but she came to the school with the police and all the teachers were arrested,” he claimed.

The emotional revelation reportedly took place during Omije Ojumi’s funeral, where the man said he came solely to pay his last respects and finally reconnect with his children after 15 years of separation.
