APC Senator Quits Ruling Party Citing Tinubu’s Failure On Security

Senator Ibrahim Lamido, who represents Sokoto East in the senate, has announced the decision to end his membership of the ruling APC, citing President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s failure to curb insecurity nationwide.

Lamido particularly referred to his own senatorial district suffering regular attacks from bandits with the government failing to address the situation.

The Senator announced his exit from the ruling APC on Friday.

Insisting that his decision was not motivated by personal ambition or political gain, he said there is a need for him to stand with his people as they face their current challenges.

‘My people are suffering. Entire communities have been ruined by bandits, and as their representative, I cannot remain in a system that has not shown enough commitment to ending this crisis’ he submitted while lamenting that several villages have been left devastated, with residents displaced and livelihoods destroyed.

The Senator further noted that after extensive consultations with his supporters, political allies, and community leaders, a collective decision was taken to leave the APC and seek an alternative political platform that will prioritize security and development.

Safety of lives and property, he noted, should remain the primary responsibility of any government adding that leadership must be held accountable when it fails to protect the citizens.

The federal government should also according to him to double efforts to tackle banditry and restore peace to Sokoto State and other affected parts of the north adding that failure to do this will worsen humanitarian crisis in the region.
