The African Democratic Congress (ADC) condemns the widely circulated video showing Mr. Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), an APC chieftain openly distributing palliative to poor Nigerians at a political gathering in Oshodi, Lagos.
ADC chieftain, Hon. Rahman Owokoniran, stated in a statement that such sharing of palliatives is neither compassion, nor empathy, nor respect for the human condition. It is a public admission of failure by the APC government after years of broken promises, disastrous economic policies, and worsening hardship imposed on Nigerians.
A government that has driven multiple millions of Nigerians into hunger now resorts to palliative handouts as a substitute for real solutions to the problems facing our nation.
This is the sad commentary of our nation today.
The mass of our people has been subjected to collecting handouts instead of living in plenty.
They have been consigned to resignation and desperation instead of joining the fight against corruption and mismanagement of our common wealth.
At a time when Nigeria is grappling with runaway inflation, soaring food prices, mass unemployment, insecurity, and deepening poverty, public distribution of palliatives at political gatherings is an insult to the dignity and integrity of Nigerians. There is no reason for it in a wealthy nation like Nigeria.
ADC Frontliners emphasizes that Nigerians are not poor because they lack palliatives. Nigerians are poor because of APC inhumane policies and its failure to deliver on promises made to the people.
The deflation of the naira and ultimate near-collapse of Nigeria’s economy has led to the loss of millions of jobs and reduced the purchasing power of the wages of workers. This consequently led to rise in unemployment and drastically reduced the cost of living of both salary earners and sole-proprietors. The resultant inflation affected all sectors of the economy, especially small and middle scale businesses. This has negatively impacted the social contract between the government and the people. Hence, the current APC government’s inclination to turn hunger into a political strategy through palliative handouts reflects a moral collapse and a dangerous abuse of power.
On the contrary, the ADC stands firmly for issue-based politics, and purposeful governance that will restore dignity to Nigerians.
Nigerians need solutions, not palliatives.
Nigeria needs leadership with vision, not propaganda.
With ADC, We Can Keep Hope Alive.
