Niger Delta militant leader, Mujahid Asari Dokubo, who erstwhile proclaimed unflinching support for Rivers State’s Governor Siminalayi Fubara, has announced a change of mind, in the ongoing crisis pitching the politician against erstwhile godfather Nyesom Wike.
Dokubo says he has withdrawn his support for the suspended Governor.
Making his U-turn known n a video surfacing online on March 20, 2025, just a few hours after the commencement of the State of emergency proclaimed by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Asari Dokubo told his followers and the Ijaw Youth Council (IYC) that Fubara was not an Ijaw man and must honor his political agreement with former Governor Nyesom Wike.
He challenged his supporters to state whether they were party to the agreement between Wike and Fubara, and those ones responded in the negative.
“Agreement is an agreement,” he said, insisting that Fubara must fulfill his commitments.
Previously, he had strongly opposed any move to impeach Governor Fubara, warning President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the FCT Minister Nyesom Wike against such actions.
He had also aligned with the IYC in defending Fubara’s position, vowing to resist any attempt to remove him.
The Ijaw Youth Council had similarly cautioned against Fubara’s removal, urging political leaders to maintain peace in the state.
