Nigeria’s longest-reigning king, the Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayọde Adetọna, Ọgbagba II, has joined his ancestors.
The announcement of his demise was made by the palace in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, on Sunday July 13.
He was paramount ruler of the Ijebu Kingdom, and was one of Nigeria’s most influential monarchs.
Oba Adetona ruled for over 64 years, making him the longest-serving traditional ruler in Nigeria.
Born on May 10, 1934, the Awujale of Ijebuland was 26 years old when he became king.
He was installed on April 2, 1960.
