BREAKING: 27 PDP Lawmakers Cross-Carpet To APC In Rivers House of Assembly

Twenty-seven 27 Rivers State House of Assembly lawmakers loyal to former Governor Nyesom Wike today announced their defection from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

One of the PDP legislators, Hon. Enemi George, confirmed their defection on Channels TV today Monday.

Scenes in front of the Assembly complex also showed erstwhile PDP loyalists waving APC flags.

According to George, the decision to defect to APC was taken during their sitting today Monday, by the 27 lawmakers under the leadership of Hon. Martin Amaewhule.

The announcement added a curious twist to the supremacy battle between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike and his erstwhile godson and Rivers State’s Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

Last week, Wike had sent social media when a video appeared, showing him singing a song of solidarity and loyalty for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“On your mandate we shall stand, Jagaban!” Wike sang in the office of the President’s Chief of Staff, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.

He recently declared that he would resist everything by the Governor or anyone else to destroy his political structure in Rivers State.

On the other hand, Fubara swore to defend his governorship mandate in the face of impeachment moves against him.

President Tinubu recently invited both gladiators to Aso Rock and sued for peace between both PDP chieftains.

Wike, also, met with governors elected on the platform of PDP, led by the Governor of Bauchi State, Bala Mohammed in the FCT Administration headquarters in Abuja recently.

According to Wike, the problem with Fubara had nothing to do with having a share of monthly allocations coming to Rivers State, as some speculated.

The former Governor told the mediators: “I’m not interested in all the rumours, money, this, and that. Rubbish! Absolute rubbish! I just left the office, how many months ago? And I’m FCT Minister, so which money?

“Nobody can intimidate me. If I want to do something, I will do it. Impeachment is not a military coup; it is provided for under the Constitution.”

Wike also accused Governor Fubara of destroying the “political structure” that gave him victory under three months.

In the heat of the crisis, members of the State Assembly loyal to Wike commenced impeachment proceedings against Governor Fubara.

Suspected Fubara loyalists set part of the complex on fire while the impeachment moves gathered momentum.
