Impeached Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, today Thursday stormed the assembly complex in company of police.
The Agege representative’s appearance in the complex today is his first time in the Parliament of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s home state and constituency since being impeached on January 13 by 37 of the 40 members.
A chieftain of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) told TheNewsGiant: “What we understood was that he will enter the complex only to resign. But maybe those in Abuja are pushing him on this new path.”
Sources said he was in the company of police and State Security Service officers and a few lawmakers when he entered the Speaker’s Office around 12 noon.
Hordes of his supporters gathered outside the assembly complex holding placards and chanting slogans in his favour.
Chief Press Secretary to Meranda, Segun Ajiboye, confirmed the latest in a short message on Thursday, and accused Obasa of leading people to break into the Speaker’s office.
Announcing his return to the position he previously held, Obasa repeatedly shouted in the Assembly complex: “I’ve resumed! And I remain the Speaker of the Assembly!”
