Rivers State’s Governor Siminalayi Fubara today Thursday faced another impeachment crisis as the House of Assembly commenced proceedings to remove him.

Some 26 lawmakers signed the petition to impeach the Governor.

Part of the accusations, although not made public yet, would be Fubara’s failure to respect the terms of a peace settlement brokered by the President between the Governor and the House of Assembly, whose majority members are loyalists of FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike.

He has approved a 2026 budget without recourse to the House and made appointments without its approval as required by the 1999 Constitution as amended.

The first movie to Impeach Fubara took place last year and led to the declaration of an emergency rule in state by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Thursday’s Motion was presented on the floor of the House by the Majority Leader.

They accused Fubara and his Deputy Governor of gross misconduct.

The Speaker, Rt. Hon. Martin Amaewhule, presided over the session.

Martin Amaewhule said he would send the petition to Fubara within seven days.

Tinubu declared a state of emergency in Rivers State on March 18, 2025, suspending the Governor, Deputy Governor, and State House of Assembly for six months.

The President appointed Vice Admiral Ibokette Ibas (Rtd) as Administrator, who ran the state until September 17, 2025.
