Osun State’s Governor Ademola Adeleke has resigned his membership of the troubled People’s Democratic Party (PDP).

Adeleke on his official Twitter X handle announced the development.

He tweeted: “Due to the current crisis within the leadership of the People’s Democratic Party(@OfficialPDPNig) at the national level, on the 4th of November, 2025, I officially conveyed my resignation letter as a member to the leadership of the party in Sagba Abogunde, Ward 2, Ede North local government. I thanked the party and its numerous members and supporters for the opportunities given to me to use the platform for my elections as first a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and now as Governor of Osun State.”

The publication of his resignation on Monday comes hours after Osun State PDP Chairman, Mr Sunday Bisi disclosed that the party would not hold the primary election on Tuesday as scheduled due to factional crisis within the party, and that Governor Adeleke appeared no longer interested in contesting the primaries, after initially picking and submitting the requisite form.

Tendering his resignation from the party, the Governor wrote a letter dated November 4, 2025 to the party Chairman of Sagba Ward 2 in Ede, in which he attributed the crisis in the party as the reason behind the governor’s decision.

Titled: “Resignation of my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP),” the letter read, “Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my Membership of the People’s Democratic Party with immediate effect.

“I thank the People’s Democratic Party for the opportunities given to me for my elections as a Senator (Represented Osun West) and as Governor of Osun State under the People’s Democratic Party.”

Ademola Nurudeen Jackson Adeleke, a businessman, has been serving as the Governor of Osun State since 2022.

He served as the Senator representing the Osun-West senatorial district from 2017 to 2019.

He contested in the 2022 Osun State gubernatorial election under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party and defeated the incumbent governor Adegboyega Isiaka Oyetola of the All Progressives Congress, who previously defeated him in the 2018 Osun State gubernatorial election rerun.

He started his political career in 2001 alongside his late brother Senator Isiaka Adeleke who died in April 2017.

He contested at the Osun West 2017 by-election after the death of his brother, emerging as the winner under the People’s Democratic Party.

Adeleke was an APC member until he decamped to the PDP in April 2017.
