The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja today Thursday upheld Senator Monday Okpebholo as the duly elected Governor of Edo State, ruling that the election conducted by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was valid.
The court ruled that the governorship poll was validly conducted and the winner rightly declared by INEC.
In the judgement of the three-man panel, the appellate court affirmed that Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was lawfully declared as the winner of the.Edo State governorship election of September 24, 2024.
Reading the judgement, Justice Mohammed Danjuma, dismissed the appeal filed by the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and its candidate, Asue Ighodalo, describing it as lacking in merit.
Justice Danjuma said that both PDP and Ighodalo failed to establish any miscarriage of justice in the judgement of the Edo State Election Petition Tribunal which had earlier dismissed the petition of the two appellants.
Justice Mohammed Danjuma, who delivered judgement in the appeal brought before the court by the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, and its governorship candidate, Asue Ighodalo, held that the appeal was devoid of merit and subsequently dismissed it in its entirety.
