Delta State’s Governor Sheriff Oborevwori has dumped the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and crossed carpet to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Oborevwori won the 2023 gubernatorial election on the platform of the PDP.

The announcement about his defection was made after a closed-door meeting at the Government House in Asaba today Wednesday.

Making the announcement to journalists in Asaba, Commissioner for Works (Rural Roads and Public Information), Charles Aniagwu, in company of Senator James Manager and Chief Press Secretary to Governor Oborevwori, Sir Festus Ahon, confirmed the development.

He promised that by next week Monday, a “big statement would be made.”

The decision to defect to the APC, Aniagwu explained, followed extensive consultations with political stakeholders and was made in the interest of Delta State’s long-term development.

The Governor is moving into APC with all his cabinet members, including the Deputy Governor.

Explaining the reason, Charles Aniagwu said it was “to further advance the cause of the welfare and security of our people, and to a very large extent, ensure development is better, because even politics is local.

“In taking that decision, we came to the inevitable conclusion that moving out of the PDP is very highly necessary for us to be able to collaborate with our kith and kin and build that State that every Deltan would be proud of.”

The Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, also, confirmed the development.

Ahon said the decision was reached after “wide consultations with political stakeholders and in the interest of Delta’s long-term development”.
