President Bola Ahmed Tinubu this afternoon swore in the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Vice Admiral Ibok-Étè Ibas (retd.), into office, just hours after the Commander-in-Chief imposed emergency measures on the oil-rich place.
In Port Harcourt, embattled Governor Fubara vacated the Government House along with his family and security detail.
They moved out on Wednesday morning, March 19.
Tinubu administered the oath of office on Ibas at about 3pm at the State House, Abuja.
The brief ceremony was witnessed by the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, the Attorney General of the Federation, Mr Lateef Fagbemi, SAN, and the Principal Secretary to the President, Mr Hakeem Muri-Okunola.
Ibas, who arrived at the Presidential Villa at about 12:48pm, first met with the President.
Tinubu appointed Ibas on Tuesday evening to run the affairs of Rivers State after declaring a state of emergency on the state following the escalation of the political crisis there.
As part of the measures, the President announced the suspending of Governor Siminalayi Fubara, Deputy Governor Ngozi Odu, and all elected members of the Rivers State House of Assembly for an initial period of six months.
In their place, Tinubu appointed Vice Admiral Ibas as Sole Administrator, with a mandate to oversee governance but not to enact new laws.
