Music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has been appointed Chairman of the Osun State Sports Trust Fund.
Davido’s uncle, Senator Ademola Adeleke, is the Governor.
Announcing the appointment in a statement, the Osun State Government described it as part of efforts to reposition and revitalise the state’s sports sector.
In his new role, Davido will be in charge of mobilising resources to drive the development and modernisation of sports facilities across Osun State.
The government emphasised that the move reflects Governor Ademola Adeleke’s commitment to improving sports infrastructure and creating opportunities for youth engagement.
Confirming the appointment, Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as Commissioner for Sports, revealed that the award-winning singer was excited about the role and immediately accepted the offer.
“The ongoing rehabilitation of the Osogbo Township Stadium to meet Olympic standards will be completed in the shortest possible time. We are also finalising plans to establish the Osun State Sports Commission, which will serve as the central body for sports development and policy implementation,” Adewusi said.
The Deputy Governor further explained that the newly introduced Sports Trust Fund, chaired by Davido, would attract investments and support from sports enthusiasts and philanthropists within and outside the state to ensure sustainable sports financing.
“Davido’s involvement is expected to attract substantial funds that will significantly impact the growth of sports in Osun,” Adewusi added.
Governor Adeleke’s administration reiterated its pledge to make sports a major pillar of youth development and community engagement in the States.
He added, “Introduction of a Sports Trust Fund to attract support from sports philanthropists within and outside the state, ensuring sustainable sports financing and development. Davido has been contacted and informed that he would be appointed as Chairman the Sports Trust Fund, and he did not hesitate in accepting the appointment.”
The Osun State House of Assembly recently passed the bill establishing the State Sports Commission, which is now awaiting the Governor’s assent.
