Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, has extended his heart-felt condolences to the families of victims of Sunday’s fire incident caused by a fallen diesel tanker in Agbor, Ika South Local Government Area of the state.
The diesel tanker reportedly suffered a brake failure, and fell at a traffic light junction and exploded into a ball of fire that burnt four persons to death.
Three other persons suffered various degrees of injury in the explosion and the resultant inferno.
In commiserating with the Ika South Local Government and people of the area on the tragedy, which resulted in the loss of lives and property, the Governor, in a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Sir Festus Ahon, described the fire incident as horrifying and prayed for the speedy recovery of those injured and fortitude to those bereaved in the unfortunate incident.
Governor Oborevwori directed the State Ministry of Health, the State Emergency Management Agency and other relevant authorities to expedite action by providing the much-needed immediate support to all victims of the incident.
The Governor commended the Fire Service, the good people of Ika South Local Government and security agencies who rallied round to put out the inferno and their dedication to assisting those affected by the fire incident.
what can be described as a new year tragedy, about five persons were reportedly feared dead, several injured, while a yet-to-be quantified volume of property, including banks, and vehicles got burnt following a tanker explosion on Sunday in Agbor, Ika South local government area of Delta state.
The petrol-laden tanker which reportedly spilled its content after a crash exploded into flames and consequently consumed all persons on its pathway.
The incident occurred Sunday afternoon along the Old Lagos-Asaba Road by the First Bank in Agbor Central.
The petrol tanker went up in flames after it fell off while attempting to make a turn at the old Lagos/Asaba road.
A number of people were injured, houses burnt, so also were banks, as well as vehicles parked in that environment.
The state Police Command confirmed the incident, pointing out that both the First Bank and Access Bank branches in the town were also caught up in the fire incident.
The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr Bright Edafe, also said four houses, including an Anglican Church, and two vehicles were also razed.
Although some persons at the scene of the incident said, they were yet to see firefighters as the fire intensified, but the director of the state fire services, Eugene Oziwele confirmed the story.
According to him, the casualties were many, stressing that firemen from Asaba joined their Agbor counterparts as well as those from the federal fire service to put out the fire.
