Reinstated Deputy Governor of Edo State, Comrade Philip Shaibu has formally rejoined the All Progressives Congress (APC) from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
Last Wednesday, the impeached Deputy Governor was reinstated after the Federal High Court in Abuja nullified the action of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Shaibu was impeached in April by the Edo State House of Assembly, ending months of tussle between him and Governor Godwin Obaseki over the former’s move to contest the Edo Governorship election.
He made his crossover, on Saturday, during the inauguration of the Cross River Governor, Senator Bassey Otu-led APC Edo 2024 Governorship National Campaign Council held in Benin City, the Edo State capital.
Shaibu walked up to former Governor Adams Oshiomhole’s seat and knelt before him, drawing applause from party supporters.
Taking to his official social media handles, Shaibu tagged pictures of him with Oshiomhole, “Father and Son!”
Taking to his social handle, he Shaibu wrote:
“It is a triumphant homecoming for me, as I officially return to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the party where I am accepted, valued, and welcomed with open arms. The party, which holds a special place in my heart, and where I have shared countless memories.
“I am grateful to be back among the Progressives’ fold and community that have always supported me, and to reunite with my political family.”
Shaibu fell out with Oshiomhole, his then benefactor, during the former Governor’s face-off with the incumbent Governor Godwin Obaseki, in the Edo 2020 gubernatorial election.
During the rift between Obaseki and Oshiomhole, Shaibu stood behind Obaseki against Oshiomhole, noting that the former Governor was playing godfather when they both never allowed such to happen in Edo State.
The Deputy Governor was accompanied by prominent members of the Dan Orbih-led Legacy Group of the PDP as he made his return to APC.
