Two prominent leaders in the All Progressives Congress (APC) have addressed reports linking them with the growing ranks of the opposition alliance under the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

Boss Mustapha, Late President Muhammadu Buhari’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF from 2017 to 2023), on Sunday, dismissed reports linking him to ADC as his choice political platform.

This followed Saturday’s refutation of any ADC link by Akinwunmi Ambode, the former Lagos Governor, speculated to be eyeing a return to the state’s governorship under the ADC.

BOSS MUSTAPHA

In his statement on Sunday, Mustapha described reports of his pro-ADC migration as “fake news,” insisting he had not engaged in any discussions with members of the opposition or their coalition partners.

He wrote: “My attention has been drawn to a news story in circulation associating me with the opposition alliance and their choice of the ADC as their political party.

“I want the general public to know that this is fake news. I am not in any opposition alliance, and I am not in any discussion with those who are involved.

“As the deputy national chairman of the ACN, the largest political party with six governors at the time of the merger and the formation of the APC, I can rightly claim that I am one of the founding fathers of the governing party.

“I cannot, therefore, in all reasonableness, walk away from a party I helped to form.

“If our party has problems, as all the other parties do, we will stay at the party and fix those problems. We don’t solve problems by decamping to other parties,” he added.

AKINWUNMI AMBODE

In his own statement, Ambode described the claims as “false publications” aimed at causing distractions.

Ambode said, “I wish to publicly reaffirm my absolute and unshakable loyalty to the APC, the party under which I had the privilege of serving Lagos state as governor in 2015, and to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, my leader, mentor, and a tireless champion for Nigeria’s progress.

“Let it be clear: I stand solidly with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress. We will work together to ensure victory in 2027 to continue delivering the dividends of democracy to all Nigerians.”
