The Deputy Director Fire, National Information Unit of the Federal Fire Service, Abdul Alhaji Ashafa, who confirmed the accident, said the car in which the deceased and one other person was driving, rammed into the fire truck, which was going to re-fill water to put out a fire incident in the district.

However, in a viral video shared online, claimed the fire service truck was rushing to attend to an emergency when it crashed into the car at the junction.

She said three of the four occupants of the car died while one other sustained injury and was trapped was trapped in the car.

“Unfortunately, one of the occupants inside the car was trapped for hours, and no emergency tools, while the police showed up at the scene late.”

She said some passersby tried to help while some were busy making videos of the victims, adding that the trapped occupant later died.

She said the victims were later evacuated to an undisclosed hospital, where she claimed that there was no trauma system to attend to the victims.

The witness also said the victims’ family members got to know about the accident through blogs, adding that it was unfortunate that some people preferred to film an accident victim instead of giving such victim a helping hand.

She added, “I can’t imagine when one of the boys inside the car that was trapped in between the metal is dying, but some people first instinct was to bring out their phones and started recording video. But I want to thank the good Samaritans who offered to help to rescue them to the hospital.”

She called on the management of the Fire Service to investigate the accident.

“I will also want to appreciate those involved in the rescue of the victims for their compassion for doing what those systems supposed to do but could not do,” she added.

The remains of the victims were later evacuated from the hospital by the family upon receiving the information.

They were buried on Saturday at the Muslim Cemetery in Abuja, while one of the victims who sustained injuries is still responding to treatment.

A close member of the family, who craved anonymity, described the incident as devastating, saying, however, no one can question God’s judgement.

The Deputy Director Fire, National Information Unit of the Federal Fire Service, Abdul Alhaji Ashafa, confirmed that a fire truck from the Federal Secretariat was involved in the accident.

He said the truck was going to refill water to respond to an emergency when the car the victims were riding rammed into the truck at a junction in Wuse district.

He said four people were inside the car but three died as a result of the accident.

He said the Federal Comptroller of Fire and the FCT Sector Commander had visited the bereaved family.

He said investigation into the incident was ongoing.
