Adamawa State’s Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has announced the endorsement of Ambassador Umar Iliya Damagum to continue as Acting National Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) by five northern states.
On the list are: Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno and Yobe states.
In a statement on Thursday, Fintiri expressed confidence in Damagum’s leadership, citing a Federal High Court Abuja restraining order that necessitated Damagum’s completion of former Chairman Dr. Iyorchia Ayu’s tenure.
Fintiri, who spoke on behalf of the PDP chapters in Adamawa, Taraba, Gombe, Borno, and Yobe states, said the zone was impressed with Damagum’s leadership, since he assumed office.
He said a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja had stopped Damagum’s removal from office.
The Governor noted that the decision of the court was in the interest of the PDP, party members and the national democratic process.
Erstwhile the Deputy National Chairman (North), Damagum had taken over following the suspension of Ayu in March 2023.
