Flags Drop To Half-Mast To Mourn Army Chief Lagbaja, As First Lady Remi Visits Widow

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has directed that the national flag be flown at half-mast in honour of the Chief of Army Staff, Lt.-Gen. Taoreed Abiodun Lagbaja, who died after a brief illness.

Nigerian First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, also, paid a condolence visit to the family of the Late Chief of Army Staff.

In a statement signed on his behalf by Mr Segun Imohiosen, Director, Information and Public Relations Office of SGF (OSGF) Secretary to the of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, said the President gave the directive on Wednesday, soon after The Presidency announced the death.

“The President has directed that National Flags be flown at half-mast throughout the country for seven days in honour of the departed Army Chief,” Akume said.

He said that President Tinubu appreciated the services of the departed to the nation and wished the family the fortitude to bear the great loss.

Accompanied by the wife of the Vice President, Hajia Nana Shettima, and the wife of the National Security Adviser, Hajia Ribadu, the First Lady was warmly received by Mrs. Oghogho Musa, wife of the Chief of Defence Staff.

During the visit, Senator Tinubu offered her prayers and condolences to the grieving family.

While comforting the wife, Mrs Mariya Abiodun Lagbaja and the children, Senator Tinubu noted that “the Lord only can determine when a man dies.”

A statement by Busola Kukoyi, SSA Media to the First Lady, quoted her as urging them to be “comforted by the good life and legacies he left behind.”
